Former SKID ROW Drummer PHIL VARONE: 'If You Can't Laugh At Yourself, It's Pretty Sad'

July 17, 2006

Former SKID ROW/SAIGON KICK drummer Phil Varone, who recently retired from music in order to start a new career in stand-up comedy, has posted the following message on his MySpace page:

"As I move on to a new career in comedy, I've been reminiscing about the old days being one of them damn rock and roll drummers. As you know, I enjoy making fun of myself, almost as much as you guys like to make fun of me. I know it's all out of love, and if you can't laugh at yourself, it's pretty sad. Considering I make fun of people, and go on rants, it's only fair that I give back a little and let you guys have your fun.

"My movie, 'Waking Up Dead', was finally signed to a world wide distribution deal, and yes, it will be out this year for sure. You will be able to purchase the DVD soon, and we will announce a release date shortly. Remember kids, there nothing like a copy of 'Waking Up Dead' in a stocking on Christmas morning. When I think holiday, I think 'Waking Up Dead'.

"How is this all relevant to the blog you ask? Well, as Fabio Jafet ('Waking Up Dead' director) and I were talking the other day, I asked him to send over all the crazy pictures from the movie, and some that never made the movie. Most of the pictures are from the old days, and show how I matured into the chiseled Adonis, with rock-star looks and caviar dreams that is know as Phil 'Rotten Brain' Varone. Along with pictures, I wanted to share another thing with you. I had a couple of nick names on the road, and most of my friends called me either Vtrain, or Filthy. Below is a list of thing woman would say or call me.

01. What band are you in?
02. Hey you
03. Got any blow
04. Asshole
05. Can I meet the bass player?
06. Douche bag
07. Hey drummer boy
08. Whats your name?
09. Where's Sebastian?
10. I can't, my boyfriend is waiting outside.
11. Are you sure he will never know?
12. What is that camera for?
13. Is that thing real?
14. What are you doing back there?
15. I've never been on a tour bus
16. Why are you licking my ass?
17. Can I get a shirt?
18. You're not Tommy Lee
19. Who the fuck do you think you are?
20. Open this door, asshole. I am naked, and my purse is all over the hallway.

"Oh, it brings a tear to my eye just thinking about those fun times!!! Anyway, I found a few more pics today, and I hope you enjoy them at my expense. They are in no particular order, just a trip down memory lane. Remember people, I am delicate, so be some what nice!!!!"
